Prof. Nishi Pandey is an educationist and a committed social worker, who has contributed immensely to the fields of literary studies, higher education, educational pedagogy and teacher’s training in a concentrated manner at the University of Lucknow. Prof. Pandey has a teaching experience of 33 years at the Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral level. She was the Professor-Director of the UGC-Academic Staff College (ASC), University of Lucknow and has also served as Dean Student Welfare and Chief Provost of the University. Presently she is serving as Head of the Department of English and Modern European Languages, University of Lucknow.
Prof. Pandey has recently received the UP State Government’s highest award Saraswati Samman for her contribution to Higher Education. She has also been the recipient of the IVLP (International Visitors Leadership Programme) Scholarship for Strengthening and Widening the Scope of American Studies: The US Experience from June-July 2010 by the Department of State Washington DC. She visited Oxford University, U.K. in 1995 for her Postdoctoral Work on an Oxford University Scholarship specializing in Modern Literary Theory and Women’s Writing in English. She received the Fulbright Scholarship in 2005 and also received the Charles Wallace Trust Scholarship to study ‘London Theatre Plays in Performance’ at the University of London in 1995.
Her areas of specialization are American Literature, Higher Education Management, Quality Assurance, Teacher Preparation and Pedagogy and Action Research in Higher Education, Theatre Studies/ Drama/ Film Studies, Contemporary Literature, Literature in Translation and Women’s Studies.
Prof. Pandey has organized over 200 Workshops/ Seminars and Lectures- international and national as a part of her academic work at the University and the UGC-Academic Staff College. The themes of the Workshops have ranged from literature to women’s studies, higher education and other interdisciplinary areas. She has accredited many Universities and colleges in India as a Member of the NAAC Peer Team for Assessment and Accreditation and has been a member on various University Grants Commission (UGC) Committees. She is the President of the Association of British Scholars, Lucknow Chapter, Secretary of the Lucknow Film Association, Founding Director of Natyagram (Cultural Centre). Chairperson of Utsaah (An NGO working with students). Treasurer of the Governing Body of the Indian Literacy Board, Chairman of the State Resource Centre working in adult education and many other prominent social organizations in the country.
